The Glasgow based division of Fusion began their campaign with Tour 0, a qualification event to make the top division at Tour. Hoping to emulate their A Tour adventures in 2008 the team had to finish in the top 6 to make the grade again for 2009. Although the core of the team still existed, West had picked up a lot of newbies for the season. Saturday was a learning experience for everyone involved as we worked on new plays, consolidated structures and finally developed a team that looked comfortable playing against a zone. On Sunday the team really gelled and we finished 3rd overall, dominating against every team apart from Leeds and going to the A tour seeded 10th.
Inconsistencies showed at Tour 1. After destroying the Brown we lost out in a 3 way tie putting us bottom of the group and were eventually relegated from the A tour by Strange Blue.
Tour 2 and Fusion West took on a different challenge, winning the B tour with 8 players. We were comfortable group winners on Saturday but found ourselves 13-9 down in a game to 14 at the semi final stage. We managed to we find a defense that worked for us, clawed back the points and made the final. We went on to take the title. At nationals the west players decided they liked playing with 8 players so much they did it again!
In 2010 Fusion will probably persist as a single squad however if there are enough players there may be a Glasgow based open team open to everyone interested.
