Glasgow Ultimate’s Summer Programme is back!

As in previous years we’ll be running two Summer Leagues (June/July and August/September), squad training, pickup, and a few extra events at Hillhead Sports Club.

Our second league of the summer will be starting on the 7th of August and running for 6 weeks. If you have any queries not covered by the information below then please get in touch with us via glasgowultimate@gmail.com or you’ll find links to all our social media at the foot of the page

Below is a sample calendar of what we plan to run this summer

  • Open to all
    • 16 Summer League/Game nights
    • 9 weekend pickup sessions
    • 2 mini tournaments*
  • GUX & XYZ
    • These are our competitive teams. These sessions are only relevant to anyone who has already been selected for one of these squads.
    • Squad trainings* later in the season are included for illustration. They may still change dates and shouldn’t be considered confirmed until they are posted in Spond.

* Extended trainings (>2 hours) and mini tournaments will be charged at a slightly higher rate (tbc).

All of our summer activities take place at Hillhead Sports Club, 32 Hughendend Road, G12 9XP.

Wednesday nights:

  • Juniors – 18:00 – 19:15
  • Summer League – 18:30 – 20:30

Sunday afternoon:

  • 14:00 – 16:00

We play on the grass training pitch located next to the main club house and have access to changing rooms and toilets. Hillhead has a bar and cafe which is perfect for coming down to watch or to socialise afterward.

  • Sign up as an individual and we will put you on a team even if you are only available for part of the league.
  • 2 mixed gender games per session.
  • 5-a-side teams
  • Everyone is welcome regardless of experience or ability.
  • The club bar and beer garden will be open for drinks and food after each session and we will be organising some socials during the summer.
  • There is a cost to the league detailed below but if you are new to the sport and just want to check it out we give you the first couple of sessions for free.
  • All players need to have at least basic UKU membership to participate regularly beyond taster sessions.

SIGN UP DEADLINE: Do it NOW.

Everyone who registers is ordinarily put on a team but we do have an upper limit on capacity. We’ll allocate teams over the weekend of the 4th/5th of August. We will still accept new members throughout the summer but it makes it much easier if we know up front.

As well as Summer League on Wednesday evenings we’ll be at Hillhead for pickup/training and other activities on Sunday afternoons (14:00 – 16:00). This gives you up to 4 hours of ultimate most weeks, potentially 29 sessions over the summer.

Our costs have risen again this year so we have had to increase our prices slightly. As always we aim to keep Ultimate in Glasgow as affordable as possible so we still have our Adult, Junior, and Student/Unemployed categories. There are also discounts making each session cheaper the more you play:

  • PAYG – £5 / £6 per  session (student / adult)
  • Junior – Included in Junior Summer Membership.
  • 8 sessions to use at any time – £32 / £35 (student / adult).
  • Full Summer Membership – £70 / £76 (student / adult) –  Covers all regular sessions from June to September

Please note that the above options are all capped at £70 / £76, i.e. no one will pay more than £70 / £76 for the whole summer whichever option they choose and we always charge the minimum amount possible once actual attendance is taken into account. You can see exactly what you will pay in the table below:

We prefer you to pay up front if you are able (payment details are sent out after you register for summer league if you are new to the club). This saves us a lot of hassle and the club/treasurer being out of pocket. We will inform (hassle) you each week for not paying in advance unless you’ve been in touch to defer payment. Any unused sessions you’ve paid for in advance will be kept as credit in your club balance to be used in future or refunded if requested.

Financial hardship

As a club, we don’t want anyone to miss out on playing Ultimate due solely to financial reasons. If you’re worried about your ability to afford summer league, or any GU events, please fill in the relevant section of the form or get in touch with the club. All such matters are treated confidentially. We are usually happy to defer payment or allow you to pay over a period that suits your needs once we have come to an agreement.
